Pre-retirees and retirees want to know whether they are financially prepared for retirement. This requires quantifying financial goals related to your retirement expenses, or liabilities. We will describe lifestyle, longevity, legacy, and liquidity as the four L financial goals of retirement. Retirement assets will fund these goals. We generalize retirement assets as reliable income, the diversified portfolio, and reserves. We compare the value of assets and liabilities by calculating the funded ratio. As part of the workshop, we will introduce you to the new and improved Funded Ratio tool at the Retirement Researcher Academy. We’ll show you how to use the tool to test whether you have sufficient assets to fund your retirement goals, how you may want to reposition assets between different categories, and how robust your plan is to changes in underlying assumptions such as retirement date, essential expenses, inflation, and the real interest rate.
