Understanding Retirement Expense Dynamics: Expense Categories and Risks

Workshop Instructor

Retirement planning success is as much about understanding and managing expenses as it is about understanding and managing assets. After all, in an efficient retirement plan, retirement income equals retirement expenses. Ideally, one would generate sufficient income to cover expenses and nothing more, keeping the remaining assets optimally invested for future expense needs.

However, the expense side of the equation is often not considered in the same depth as the asset side. This is for various reasons (not least of which is that estimating future expenses – and how they will change through time – is hard), but the end result is the same. A plan that doesn’t give you a full picture of your retirement situation.

In this workshop Dan will detail:

  • How and Why we save for retirement
  • The different Retirement Expense Categories
  • How to Estimate your retirement expenses – and how they might change through time
  • The ways in which your retirement expenses won’t be predictable – and some ways you can manage that uncertainty
  • Ways that you can control your expenses in retirement
